Learning to drive is a big milestone, and choosing the right driving instructor can make all the difference in how confident and capable you feel when you finally hit the road on your own. At Drive Lincs Driver Training, my approach isn’t just about getting you to pass your test—it’s about making sure you become a safe, independent driver for life.
Here’s what you can expect when learning with me and why I do things the way I do.
1. You Won’t Be Sent for Your Test Until You’re Ready
One of the biggest frustrations in the current driving system is the huge waiting times for tests. A major reason for this backlog is that too many people are taking their test before they’re fully prepared—and failing. Every failed test means another booking, another long wait, and more strain on an already overloaded system.
I don’t believe in rushing learners to test just because they’ve hit a certain number of lessons. Instead, I only recommend booking your test when I’m confident you have the skills and experience to pass. This approach has clear benefits:
✅ Higher chances of passing first time – Saving you time, money, and stress.
✅ Less pressure on the test system – More prepared candidates mean fewer retests.
✅ Confidence in your ability – No second-guessing whether you’re ready or not.
Of course, some learners might feel frustrated waiting longer than their friends to take their test. But the alternative—failing and having to start over—wastes even more time. By waiting until you’re truly ready, you’ll avoid that cycle and gain a lifetime of safer, more confident driving.
2. Lessons Are Focused on Learning, Not Just Repeating Instructions
When your parents learned to drive, their lessons were likely very different from what you’ll experience today. Back then, driving instruction was simple:
• The instructor told the learner what to do.
• The learner practiced that exact thing until they could do it.
• The learner passed their test by following instructions correctly.
The problem? This created drivers who could pass a test but struggled when something unexpected happened on the road.
Today, driving lessons are much more learner-centred. Instead of simply telling you what to do, I work with you to develop your skills in a way that helps you think for yourself. This means:
✅ You’ll be more involved in your learning – You’ll set goals and reflect on what’s working and what needs improving.
✅ You’ll develop problem-solving skills – Instead of waiting for me to tell you what to do, you’ll learn to assess situations and make safe decisions on your own.
✅ You’ll be better prepared for real-world driving – Once you pass your test, you’ll be driving solo. My approach ensures you’ll be confident in handling unfamiliar situations, not just ones you’ve practiced before.
Yes, this approach requires more effort than simply copying what an instructor says—but it produces better, safer, and more independent drivers in the long run.
3. Your Learning Experience is Tailored to You
Everyone learns at a different pace. Some people pick up certain skills quickly but struggle with others. Some feel confident early on, while others take longer to build their trust in themselves. That’s why my lessons are not one-size-fits-all.
✔️ If you need extra time to master a skill, that’s okay.
✔️ If you progress quickly, we’ll move on to more advanced situations.
✔️ If you have specific concerns or anxieties, we’ll tackle them together.
Driving isn’t just about passing a test—it’s about feeling comfortable, capable, and safe every time you get behind the wheel. My approach ensures you develop the skills you need, not just the ones the test requires.
4. The End Goal: A Safe, Confident, Independent Driver
At Drive Lincs, my goal isn’t just to get you to pass your test. My goal is to make sure that when you do pass, you’re fully prepared for driving on your own. That means:
✅ You won’t panic when faced with an unfamiliar situation.
✅ You’ll know how to handle tricky road conditions and traffic scenarios.
✅ You’ll be able to think independently and make safe decisions.
By focusing on real learning, not just test preparation, you’ll step into the driver’s seat knowing you’re ready—not just to pass a test, but to drive confidently for the rest of your life.
