Passing your driving test is a huge achievement — but it’s only the beginning of your driving journey. The first 12 months after passing are statistically the highest‑risk period for new drivers. The DVSA created Pass Plus to help newly qualified drivers gain extra experience, improve safety, and build confidence in situations that may not have been covered during normal lessons.

Pass Plus is a minimum 6‑hour course, delivered by a DVSA‑registered Pass Plus instructor, and is suitable for any driver who wants structured post‑test development.

The course is split into six modules, each focusing on a different driving environment or challenge. You’ll gain practical experience wherever possible, with discussion‑based learning used for situations that cannot be safely replicated.

1. Town Driving

Learn how to manage complex junctions, bus lanes, cycle lanes, one‑way systems, and heavy traffic with confidence.

2. All‑Weather Driving

Understand how to drive safely in rain, fog, snow, ice, bright sun, and other challenging weather conditions.

3. Rural Roads

Develop skills for narrow lanes, blind bends, farm vehicles, animals, and safe overtaking on country roads.

4. Night Driving

Improve your ability to judge speed and distance in the dark, use headlights correctly, and stay safe with reduced visibility.

5. Dual Carriageways

Gain confidence joining, leaving, overtaking, and maintaining safe distances at higher speeds.

6. Motorways

Learn how to use motorways safely, including joining from slip roads, lane discipline, smart motorways, and breakdown procedures.
